Betamethasone 0.05% + Clotrimazole 1% topical preparation is used for the treatment of inflammatory fungal infections of the skin, such as:
- Tinea pedis (Athlete’s foot)
- Tinea cruris (Jock itch)
- Tinea corporis (Ringworm)
Clotrimazole is a broad-spectrum antifungal agent that treats superficial fungal infections caused by dermatophytes, yeasts, and Malassezia furfur. It works by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol, a crucial sterol in the fungal cell membrane. This disruption weakens the cell membrane, leading to fungal cell death.
Betamethasone dipropionate is a corticosteroid that provides anti-inflammatory, antipruritic (anti-itch), and vasoconstrictive effects. While its precise mechanism of action is not fully understood, it helps reduce inflammation and associated symptoms.
