Galvid is used alongside diet and exercise to improve blood glucose levels in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It may be prescribed:
- As monotherapy
- As dual therapy with Metformin, a Sulphonylurea, a Thiazolidinedione, or Insulin

Vildagliptin belongs to the DPP-4 inhibitor class. It works by slowing the breakdown of incretin hormones such as GLP-1 and GIP, which help regulate glucose after meals.
These hormones stimulate insulin secretion from beta cells when blood glucose is normal or elevated.
GLP-1 also suppresses glucagon release, reducing hepatic glucose output.
