Gavilac (Anised) is a unique formulation combining two antacids (Calcium Carbonate, Sodium Bicarbonate) and an alginate (Sodium Alginate).
Its dual action works by:
- Neutralizing excess stomach acid – providing fast relief from pain and burning.
- Forming a protective alginate raft over stomach contents – reducing acid reflux into the esophagus.
- The alginate raft floats on gastric contents for up to 4 hours, shielding the esophagus from acid, pepsin, and bile.
In severe reflux, the raft itself may reflux into the esophagus, acting as a demulcent.
Calcium Carbonate and Sodium Bicarbonate enhance acid neutralization for rapid symptom control.
The action is physical, not systemic, since absorption into the bloodstream is not required.
