Gavirad is used for the treatment of conditions associated with gastric reflux, such as:
- Gastric reflux
- Heartburn
- Indigestion
- Flatulence linked with gastric reflux
- Pregnancy-related heartburn
- Epigastric and retrosternal distress due to gastric reflux
Gavirad works physically by reacting with gastric acid to form a raft of alginic acid gel that floats on the stomach contents. This barrier prevents gastro-esophageal reflux for up to 4 hours. In severe cases, the raft may be refluxed into the esophagus itself, soothing irritation.Â
