Metformin Hydrochloride 500 mg + Sitagliptin 50 mg Tablet is used along with diet and exercise to help control blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus when treatment with both sitagliptin and metformin is appropriate.
 It combines two antidiabetic medicines:
- Sitagliptin increases incretin hormone activity, helping the body release more insulin and reduce glucagon production when blood sugar is high.
- Metformin lowers glucose production in the liver, decreases glucose absorption from the intestine, and improves the body’s sensitivity to insulin.
Take it exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Standard tablets are usually taken twice daily with meals, while extended-release tablets are generally taken once daily with a meal, preferably in the evening. Swallow the tablets whole and follow your doctor’s instructions carefully.
The safety of this medicine during pregnancy has not been fully established. It should only be used if clearly needed and prescribed by a healthcare professional.
It is not known whether sitagliptin passes into human breast milk. Consult your doctor before using this medicine while breastfeeding.
