Itraconazole is used for treating:
- Superficial fungal infections:
- Oropharyngeal candidiasis
- Vulvovaginal candidiasis
- Pityriasis versicolor
- Tinea pedis, tinea cruris, tinea corporis, tinea manuum
- Onychomycosis (fungal nail infections)
- Systemic fungal infections:

- Prevention of fungal infections during prolonged neutropenia
Itraconazole works by inhibiting Cytochrome P-450 enzymes, disrupting the synthesis of ergosterol, an essential component of fungal cell membranes. This leads to increased permeability, impaired enzyme activity, and ultimately fungal cell death.
