Lifcin is a broad-spectrum, third-generation fluoroquinolone antibiotic used for the treatment of various bacterial infections. It is effective against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria by inhibiting bacterial topoisomerase IV and DNA gyrase, enzymes essential for DNA replication, transcription, and repair. Chemically, it is a chiral fluorinated carboxyquinolone.
Lifcin is prescribed for infections caused by susceptible bacteria, including:
- Respiratory infections: Acute maxillary sinusitis, acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis, community-acquired pneumonia
- Urinary tract infections: Uncomplicated and complicated UTI, acute pyelonephritis
- Skin and soft tissue infections: Abscesses, cellulitis, furuncles, impetigo, pyoderma, wound infections
- Enteric infections: Enteric fever, diarrhea, cholera, shigellosis, other enteritis
Caused by pathogens such as Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Moraxella catarrhalis, Campylobacter sp., Vibrio cholerae, Salmonella sp., Shigella sp., among others.
