Popular Pharmaceuticals Ltd.

Indications

Lotenol sterile eye gel is a corticosteroid indicated for the treatment of post-operative inflammation and pain following ocular surgery.

Pharmacology

Loteprednol is a corticosteroid that is considered to work by inducing phospholipase A2 inhibitory proteins, which block the release of arachidonic acid, which controls the manufacture of potent inflammatory mediators such prostaglandins and leukotrienes.

Dosage & Administration

Apply one to two drops of Lotenol gel into the conjunctival sac of the affected eye four times daily beginning the day after surgery and continuing throughout the first 2 weeks of the post-operative period.

Contraindications

Most viral infections of the cornea and conjunctiva are contraindicated. It’s also not recommended for people who have a known or suspected hypersensitivity to any of the chemicals in this product, as well as other corticosteroids.

Side Effects

Glaucoma with optic nerve damage, visual acuity, and field defects; cataract formation; secondary eye infection as a result of the host’s immune system being suppressed.

Pregnancy & Lactation

There are no clinical data for use in pregnancy. Loteprednol Etabonate does not appear to transfer into breast milk.

Precautions & Warnings

Only for ophthalmic use.

Intraocular pressure should be monitored if this product is used for more than 10 days.

Fungal infections of the cornea are more likely to develop when a steroid is used topically for a long time.

Long-term use of corticosteroids can cause glaucoma, which can cause optic nerve damage, visual acuity and field abnormalities, and posterior subcapsular cataract formation.

The use of corticosteroids in the treatment of people who have had herpes simplex demands extreme caution.
