Loxodol may be prescribed for:
- Short-term relief of acute mild-to-moderate pain
- Pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis
- Pain and inflammation associated with rheumatoid arthritis
Loxodol is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used for the short-term management of acute mild to moderate pain. It also helps reduce pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
For acute pain:
The usual total daily dose is 8–16 mg, divided into 2 or 3 doses. The maximum recommended daily dose is 16 mg.
For osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis:
The usual starting dose is 12 mg per day, divided into 2 or 3 doses. The maintenance dose should not exceed 16 mg per day.
Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest possible duration needed to control symptoms.
Children and Adolescents
Lornoxicam is generally not recommended for patients below 18 years of age because adequate safety and efficacy data are unavailable.
Elderly Patients
Patients over 65 years generally do not require a specific dose adjustment. However, extra caution is advised because older adults may be more vulnerable to gastrointestinal complications and other NSAID-related adverse effects.
Kidney Impairment
In patients with mild to moderate renal impairment, the maximum recommended daily dose is 12 mg, divided into 2 or 3 doses. Medical monitoring may be required.
Liver Impairment
For patients with moderate hepatic impairment, the maximum recommended daily dose is 12 mg, divided into 2 or 3 doses. Severe hepatic impairment requires avoidance of the medicine.
NSAIDs may also worsen conditions such as ulcerative colitis or Crohn’s disease in susceptible individuals. Serious gastrointestinal complications can occasionally be life-threatening, particularly in older adults.
