Tamsulosin, a selective alpha1 adrenoceptor antagonist, targets alpha1 A receptors in the prostate, leading to smooth muscle relaxation. This improves urine flow rate and reduces BPH symptoms. It is well absorbed (90%) and binds extensively to plasma proteins (94%-99%). The half-life ranges from 9-13 hours in healthy individuals and up to 15 hours in BPH patients.
Maxrin is indicated for the treatment of functional symptoms of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH).
