Moxifloxacin works by inhibiting bacterial topoisomerase II (DNA gyrase) and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for bacterial DNA replication, transcription, and repair. By targeting these enzymes, Moxibac effectively prevents bacterial growth and division.
Moxibac ophthalmic solution is prescribed for bacterial conjunctivitis caused by susceptible strains of the following organisms:
Aerobic Gram-positive bacteria: Corynebacterium species, Micrococcus luteus, Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Staphylococcus haemolyticus, Staphylococcus hominis, Staphylococcus warneri, Streptococcus pneumoniae, and Streptococcus viridans group.
Aerobic Gram-negative bacteria: Acinetobacter lwoffii, Haemophilus influenzae, Haemophilus parainfluenzae.
Other organisms: Chlamydia trachomatis.
Intraocular Use: Effective in preventing postoperative bacterial endophthalmitis when administered intraocularly before eye surgery.
