Description

Generic Name: Moxifloxacin Hydrochloride 0.5% + Xanthan Gum 0.4% Manufacturer: Incepta Pharmaceuticals Ltd.

Indications

This ophthalmic solution is used to treat bacterial conjunctivitis caused by susceptible strains of the bacteria listed below:

Corynebacterium species, Micrococcus luteus, Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Staphylococcus haemolyticus, Staphylococcus hominis, Staphylococcus warneri, Streptococcus pneumonia, Streptococcus viridans group, Streptococcus pneumonia, Streptococcus pneumonia, Streptococcus pneumonia,

Acinetobacter iwoffii, Haemophilus influenzae, and Haemophilus parainfluenzae are Gram-negative aerobic bacteria.

Pharmacology

Moxifloxacin’s antibacterial activity is due to the inhibition of topoisomerase II (DNA gyrase) and topoisomerase IV. DNA gyrase is a necessary enzyme for the replication, transcription, and repair of bacterial DNA. Topoisomerase IV is an enzyme that is involved in chromosomal DNA partitioning during bacterial cell division.

Dosage & Administration

One drop in the affected eye(s) 2 times daily for 7 days.

Interaction

Moxifloxacin Hydrochloride has not been studied for drug-drug interactions.

Side Effects

Eye irritation, pyrexia, conjunctivitis, impaired visual acuity, dry eye, ocular discomfort, ocular hyperemia, ocular pain, ocular pruritus, subconjunctival hemorrhage, and weeping are the most commonly reported ocular side effects in 1-6 percent of patients.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Because there are no good and well-documented studies in pregnant women, moxifloxacin should only be taken if the possible benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Although moxifloxacin has not been detected in human milk, it is thought to be excreted in it. When Moxifloxacin is given to a breastfeeding woman, it should be done with caution.

Precautions & Warnings

Long-term use may promote the growth of non-susceptible organisms, such as fungi resistant to other anti-infectives.

Storage Conditions

Store away from light in a cool, dry location. Keep out of children’s reach. Because touching the dropper tip to surfaces can contaminate the solution, avoid doing so. Do not use the dropper medicine beyond one month from the first opening.
