Description

Generic Name: Bromhexine Hydrochloride

Manufacturer: Incepta Pharmaceuticals Ltd.

Indications of Mucolyt

Bromhexine is used to treat respiratory illnesses that cause a productive cough. Tracheobronchitis is one example.

  • Bronchitis associated with emphysema
  • Bronchiectasis
  • Bronchitis that is accompanied by bronchospasm
  • Pneumoconiosis and chronic inflammatory pulmonary diseases are two examples.

Pharmacology of Mucolyt

Bromhexine Hydrochloride is an orally administered mucolytic agent. It changes the structure of acid mucopolysaccharide fibers in mucoid sputum, which results in less viscous mucus and improved expectoration. It is quickly and completely absorbed by the gastrointestinal tract. It is widely distributed throughout the body’s tissues.

Dosage & Administration of Mucolyt

The recommended doses for adults and children are stated below:

  • Adult & Children over 12 years: 10 ml (2 teaspoons) 3 times daily
  • Children 6-12 years: 5 ml (1 teaspoon) 3 times daily
  • Children 2-6 years: 2.5 ml (1/2 teaspoon) 3 times daily
  • Bromhexine Hydrochloride is not recommended for children under 2 years of age without advice.

Interaction of Mucolyt

There are no known major medication interactions.

Contraindications

It is not recommended if you have a history of hypersensitivity to Bromhexine Hydrochloride or any of the product’s components.

Side Effects of Mucolyt

Gastrointestinal side effects are possible on occasion. A brief increase in serum aminotransferase levels has been recorded. Headache, vertigo (dizziness), and allergic responses have all been recorded as adverse effects.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Pregnancy: Pregnant women should take extra precautions. The benefits of bromhexine must be balanced against the risks to children.

Bromhexine is predicted to enter breast milk during lactation. As a result, it is not advised that nursing women use bromhexine.

Precautions & Warnings

Bromhexine should be taken with caution in individuals with a history of peptic ulcer disease because mucolytics can damage the stomach mucosa. Asthmatic individuals should also take precautions. Bromhexine and its metabolite clearance may be decreased in people with severe hepatic or renal impairment.
