Indications

Sneezing, nasal discharge and itching, congestion or stuffiness, as well as ocular itching, tearing and redness, itching of the palate, and coughing are all symptoms linked with seasonal and persistent allergic rhinitis. Neocilor is also used to treat symptoms related to chronic idiopathic urticaria, such as itching and reducing the size and number of hives.

Pharmacology

The main active metabolite of Loratadine, desloratadine, is a non-sedating, long-acting tricyclic histamine antagonist with selective H1-receptor antagonist action. Neocilor also stops human mast cells from releasing histamine.

Dosage & Administration

Pediatric drops:

Child 6-11 months of age: 2 ml drops once daily.

Child 1-2 years of age: 2.5 ml drops once daily.

Syrup:

Child 6-11 months of age: 2 ml once daily.

Child 1-5 years of age: 2.5 ml once daily.

Child 6-11 years of age: 5 ml once daily.

Adults & >12 years of age: 10 ml once daily.

Tablet:

Adults and children 12 years of age and over: 1 tablet daily

Contraindications

Patients who are hypersensitive to desloratadine or any of its constituents, as well as Loratadine, should not use it.

Side Effects

Headache, nausea, weariness, dizziness, pharyngitis, dyspepsia, and myalgia are some of the less prevalent adverse effects.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Pregnancy Classification C. Desloratadine’s safety during pregnancy has yet to be determined. As a result, unless otherwise specified, Desloratadine should not be used during pregnancy. Neocilor is excreted in breast milk, thus a decision should be taken on whether to stop breastfeeding or stop taking Desloratadine, taking into account the drug’s importance to the mother.

Precautions & Warnings

Based on pharmacokinetic evidence, a beginning dose of one 5 mg tablet every other day is indicated in adult patients with hepatic or renal impairment. If the patient has a history of seizures due to a medical condition or a family history of seizures.
