Description

Esomeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor (PPI), reduces gastric acid production by inhibiting the H+/K+-ATPase enzyme in gastric parietal cells. It is the S-isomer of omeprazole, offering superior acid control compared to racemic PPIs.

  • Absorption: Esomeprazole capsules are enteric-coated. Peak plasma levels occur approximately 1.5 hours after oral administration. Dose proportionality is observed, with a threefold increase in plasma concentration as dosage increases.
