Ofex DS is an orally administered cephalosporin antibiotic with potent bactericidal effects against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It is especially effective in vitro and remains stable against beta-lactamase enzymes, making it suitable for treating infections caused by resistant organisms.
Cefixime is a third-generation semisynthetic cephalosporin, active against various Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It disrupts bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell death. Being highly resistant to beta-lactamases, Cefixime is effective even against organisms resistant to penicillins and some cephalosporins. The oral absorption rate is about 40–50%, unaffected by food intake.
Ofex DS is used for managing acute infections caused by susceptible pathogens, including:
- Upper Respiratory Tract Infections (URTI): Such as otitis media and other URTIs where resistance to common antibiotics is suspected or where treatment failure poses a risk.
- Lower Respiratory Tract Infections: Such as bronchitis.
- Urinary Tract Infections (UTI): Including cystitis, cystourethritis, and pyelonephritis.
Effective against pathogens like Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus pyogenes, Escherichia coli, Proteus mirabilis, Klebsiella spp., Haemophilus influenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis, and Enterobacter spp.
