Olmetab Plus is prescribed for the management of hypertension (high blood pressure).
Olmetab Plus combines two antihypertensive agents: Olmesartan Medoxomil and Hydrochlorothiazide.
- Olmesartan Medoxomil is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB). It prevents angiotensin II from binding to AT1 receptors in blood vessels and adrenal glands, resulting in vasodilation and reduced aldosterone secretion. This helps lower blood pressure without affecting ACE activity or bradykinin metabolism.
- Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic that increases the excretion of sodium and chloride through the kidneys. This reduces plasma volume and lowers blood pressure. It may also increase renin and aldosterone activity, leading to potassium loss, which is partially balanced by Olmesartan.
