Olmezest H 20mg Tablet belongs to a class of medications known as “anti-hypertensives.” Its primary purpose is to lower high blood pressure (hypertension) by eliminating excess fluid (electrolytes) from the body. Hypertension is a chronic condition characterized by elevated pressure of blood against the walls of arteries, increasing the risk of heart-related ailments such as heart attacks, heart failure, strokes, irregular heartbeats, and other complications.

This tablet combines two essential components: Olmesartan medoxomil and Hydrochlorothiazide. Olmesartan medoxomil serves as a prodrug, converting into its active form, olmesartan, once absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract. It operates as an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB), effectively blocking the hormone angiotensin. By doing so, it relaxes and widens constricted blood vessels, facilitating smoother blood flow and improved cardiac efficiency. Hydrochlorothiazide, on the other hand, functions as a diuretic or “water pill,” helping remove excess fluids and certain electrolyte imbalances from the body.

It is recommended to take Olmezest H 20 Tablet 10’s with or without food, accompanied by a glass of water. Do not crush, chew, or break the tablet. While some side effects such as nausea, upset stomach, dehydration, headache, diarrhea, electrolyte imbalances, dizziness, and reduced blood pressure may occur, most of them do not necessitate medical intervention and tend to subside over time. Avoid using potassium supplements or salt substitutes unless instructed by your doctor. This medication is contraindicated in cases where you cannot urinate, are dehydrated, suffer from low blood pressure (hypotension), or have experienced cardiogenic shock (sudden cessation of blood flow to the heart). Additionally, inform your doctor about any other medications you are taking or if you have any allergies. Reducing dietary salt (sodium chloride) can often contribute to lowering blood pressure.
