Oramet SR 500 is a diabetes medication used to treat type 2 diabetes. It aids in the control of blood sugar levels, thereby preventing serious diabetes complications. It is also used to treat the menstrual disorder Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) in women.
Oramet-SR (Sustained Release) tablet contains Metformin, a biguanide-class oral antihyperglycemic agent used to manage Type 2 diabetes mellitus. It lowers basal and postprandial plasma glucose without causing hypoglycemia by decreasing hepatic glucose production, and intestinal glucose absorption, and improving peripheral glucose uptake and utilization.
- Adults:
- Monotherapy or combination therapy with other oral antidiabetic agents or insulin.
- Recommended particularly for overweight patients when dietary and exercise interventions fail.
- Children (10 years and above):
- Monotherapy or combination therapy with insulin.
- Shown to reduce diabetic complications in overweight Type 2 diabetic adult patients when used as first-line therapy.
