Vonoprazan is indicated for:
- Gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers
- Reflux esophagitis
- Prevention of gastric/duodenal ulcer recurrence during low-dose aspirin or NSAID use
- Adjunct therapy for Helicobacter pylori eradication, including:
- Gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer
- Gastric MALT lymphoma
- Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura
- After endoscopic resection of early-stage gastric cancer
Vonoprazan is a potassium-competitive acid blocker (P-CAB) that:
- Inhibits H+, K+-ATPase in stomach cells
- Reduces gastric acid secretion without needing acid activation
- Provides long-lasting protection to the stomach lining
Do not take Vonoprazan if you:
- Are allergic to Vonoprazan or any excipient in the medicine
- Are taking atazanavir, nelfinavir, or rilpivirine hydrochloride
Seek medical attention if you notice:
- Kidney problems: decreased urine, blood in urine
- C. difficile-associated diarrhea: watery stools, stomach pain, fever
- Bone fractures or unusual bone pain
- Severe skin reactions: rash, fever, chills, shortness of breath
- Low vitamin B12: lightheadedness, tingling, muscle weakness, irregular heartbeat
- Low magnesium: dizziness, muscle spasms, seizures
- Stomach growths (fundic gland polyps)
