PEG-Epo is prescribed for the treatment of anemia associated with chronic kidney disease (CKD) in adult patients, both those on dialysis and those not on dialysis.
It is not intended for use:
- In the treatment of anemia caused by cancer chemotherapy.
- As a replacement for red blood cell transfusions in patients needing immediate anemia correction.
Use only under the guidance of a registered physician.
PEG-Epo IV/Sc Injection contains Pegylated Erythropoietin, an erythropoiesis-stimulating agent (ESA) used to treat anemia caused by various conditions such as chronic kidney disease (CKD), chemotherapy, antiviral therapy (e.g., zidovudine), blood donation, or bone marrow disorders like myelodysplastic syndromes. It is also used to manage anemia in patients undergoing major bone surgeries (e.g., hip or knee replacements) and may reduce the need for blood transfusions in cancer patients or those receiving chemotherapy or surgery.
Before receiving PEG-Epo IV/Sc Injection, inform your doctor if you have liver, kidney, or heart issues, high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, a history of blood clots, or if you are undergoing dialysis or surgery. It is not recommended for use in patients with a recent heart attack, stroke, severe uncontrolled high blood pressure, or pure red cell aplasia (a condition where the bone marrow cannot produce red blood cells).
