Permisol Max Lotion is indicated for treating scabies and pruritus (itchiness). It also provides relief from itching and skin irritation due to sunburn, dry eczema, itchy dermatitis, allergic rashes, hives, nettle rash, chickenpox, insect bites and stings, heat rashes, and personal itching.
Permisol Max is a combination of Permethrin and Crotamiton.
Permethrin is a stable synthetic pyrethroid with a wide range of insecticidal action and minimal toxicity in humans.
Crotamiton is effective for treating scabies and also relieves itchiness in various skin conditions.
- Permethrin enters insects through ingestion, inhalation, or skin contact. It mainly targets their nervous system by affecting sodium channels, leading to a prolonged depolarization phase. This causes nerve overstimulation, followed by loss of coordination and paralysis. A similar mechanism works against mites.
- Permethrin is applied topically. Less than 0.5% is absorbed in the first 48 hours. It undergoes metabolism (likely in the liver) and is excreted in urine.
Crotamiton penetrates the skin quickly. It shows low but measurable levels in plasma, peaking in 4–10 hours, and then quickly declining.
