Ramipril is an ACE inhibitor. It blocks the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II (a vasoconstrictor), reducing blood vessel constriction and lowering aldosterone secretion.
This reduces blood pressure, improves heart function, protects the kidneys, and lowers the risk of heart attack, stroke, and cardiovascular death.
R-Pil is prescribed for:
- Hypertension (High Blood Pressure): as single-drug therapy or with other antihypertensives
- Congestive Heart Failure (CHF): including post-myocardial infarction
- Prevention of cardiovascular events: in patients at high risk (history of heart attack, stroke, peripheral vascular disease, or diabetes with risk factors)
- Diabetic or non-diabetic nephropathy: to protect the kidneys
