Sertraline is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) that enhances serotonin activity in the brain by preventing its reuptake at synaptic clefts. This results in prolonged serotonin activity at postsynaptic receptor sites, improving symptoms of depression and other disorders. The prolonged elimination half-life of Sertraline allows for once-daily dosing.
