Telmisartan is a non-peptide angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that prevents angiotensin II from binding to its AT1 receptors in blood vessels and adrenal glands. This results in:
✔ Relaxation of blood vessels (reducing blood pressure).
✔ Lowered aldosterone secretion, decreasing sodium and water retention.
✔ Less strain on the heart and kidneys.
Unlike ACE inhibitors, Telmisartan does not affect bradykinin levels and does not interfere with other hormone receptors or ion channels.
