Tenoren (Atenolol) – Beta-Blocker for Hypertension, Angina, and Heart Attack
Tenoren is a β1-selective (cardioselective) beta-blocker that:
- Blocks β1 (heart) receptors without affecting β2 receptors (lungs/vascular smooth muscle).
- Has no membrane-stabilizing or partial agonist activity.
- It is highly hydrophilic, so it penetrates cell membranes poorly.
- By blocking β1 receptors it reduces heart rate, blood pressure, and myocardial oxygen demand, which helps control hypertension, angina, and post-heart attack outcomes.
