Description

Amphotericin B is indicated for the following purposes:

  • Empirical Therapy in Febrile, Neutropenic Patients: It is used as an initial treatment for suspected fungal infections in febrile patients with low white blood cell counts (neutropenia).
  • Cryptococcal Meningitis in HIV-Infected Patients: It is used to treat Cryptococcal meningitis, a fungal infection of the membranes covering the brain and spinal cord, in patients with HIV infection.
  • Refractory Infections: Amphotericin B is used to treat infections caused by Aspergillus species, Candida species, and/or Cryptococcus species that are unresponsive to treatment with conventional amphotericin B deoxycholate. It may also be used when renal impairment or unacceptable toxicity prevents the use of amphotericin B deoxycholate.
  • Visceral Leishmaniasis: It is used in the treatment of visceral leishmaniasis, a parasitic infection affecting internal organs. Amphotericin B may be used in immunocompromised patients with visceral leishmaniasis.

Note: In immunocompromised patients with visceral leishmaniasis treated with Amphotericin B, relapse rates were high following initial clearance of parasites. This indicates the need for close monitoring and potential additional treatments to prevent relapse.

Tericin IV Injection contains Amphotericin B, which is classified as an Anti-fungal agent. It is prescribed to treat invasive fungal infections in patients who do not respond well to regular Amphotericin B treatment.

Tericin IV Injection is not suitable for individuals who are allergic to Amphotericin B. It should also not be used for common or superficial fungal infections that can only be detected through positive skin or serologic tests.

Prior to receiving Tericin IV Injection, inform your doctor if you have a low white blood cell count (neutropenia), liver problems (such as hepatic impairment), or kidney problems and are undergoing dialysis.

Pregnant and breastfeeding women should use Tericin IV Injection with caution only if it is absolutely necessary, and its use in children, adolescents (under 18 years), and elderly individuals (above 65 years) should be discussed with a doctor.

The most frequently reported side effects of Tericin IV Injection include fever, chills, and/or rigors. If any of these symptoms worsen, it is advisable to consult your doctor.
