Tiotropium 18 mcg Inhalation Capsule
Adults (COPD):
- Inhalation capsule: One 18 mcg capsule inhaled once daily using the prescribed inhalation device, preferably at the same time each day.
- Inhaler: Two puffs (18 mcg total) once daily.
Children:
- Over 12 years: Two inhaler puffs (18 mcg) once daily.
- Inhalation capsule use is generally recommended for adults.
Renal Impairment:
- Use cautiously in patients with creatinine clearance below 50 mL/min.
Topium Rotacap contains tiotropium, a long-acting anticholinergic bronchodilator that helps keep the airways open and makes breathing easier. It is designed for inhalation only and should never be swallowed. Regular daily use helps improve breathing and reduce symptoms associated with chronic respiratory diseases.
Tiotropium blocks muscarinic receptors in the airways, preventing the action of acetylcholine on airway smooth muscles. This results in prolonged relaxation of the bronchial muscles, widening of the airways, and improved airflow.
- Do not swallow the capsule.
- Insert the capsule into the Rotahaler device.
- Twist the device until it clicks.
- Inhale deeply through the mouthpiece.
- Hold your breath for up to 10 seconds.
- Repeat inhalation if any powder remains inside the device.
- Use Topium Rotacap regularly at the same time each day.
- It does not provide immediate relief during acute breathing attacks.
- Rinse or gargle with water after inhalation to maintain oral hygiene.
- Drink plenty of fluids or use sugar-free lozenges if dry mouth occurs.
- The first dose is best taken under medical supervision because bronchospasm may rarely occur.
- Seek medical advice if breathing problems worsen or fail to improve.
