Prescribed for the management of Parkinson’s disease and treatment of “end-of-dose” motor fluctuations.
Pregnancy: Category C – use only if clearly needed.
Lactation: Unknown if excreted in breast milk; use cautiously.
Elderly: Increased susceptibility to adverse effects; dose adjustments may be necessary.
Tridopa 50 combines Levodopa, Carbidopa, and Entacapone for synergistic action:
- Levodopa – A dopamine precursor that crosses the blood-brain barrier and is converted to dopamine, helping restore motor control.
- Carbidopa – A peripheral decarboxylase inhibitor that prevents the breakdown of Levodopa before it reaches the brain, enhancing its effectiveness.
- Entacapone – A selective COMT inhibitor that prolongs the effect of Levodopa by maintaining higher and sustained plasma levels, providing better control of Parkinson’s symptoms.
