Ramipril is a prodrug that is converted to ramiprilat, which inhibits ACE (angiotensin-converting enzyme), thereby blocking the transformation of angiotensin I to angiotensin II, a potent vasoconstrictor. This results in vasodilation, reduced aldosterone production, and ultimately lowers blood pressure. Ramipril also offers cardioprotective benefits and is suitable for long-term therapy due to its favorable tolerance profile
Tritace is prescribed for:
- Managing high blood pressure (hypertension), either alone or with other antihypertensive agents.
- Treating congestive heart failure, especially when combined with diuretics.
- Managing patients showing signs of heart failure following an acute myocardial infarction.
- Slowing the progression of kidney disease in both diabetic and non-diabetic patients with renal involvement.
- Reducing cardiovascular risk in individuals with a history of heart disease, stroke, peripheral vascular disease, or diabetes with at least one risk factor like microalbuminuria, hypertension, or dyslipidemia.
