Valex CR is indicated for the treatment of various forms of epilepsy, including:
- Partial seizures
- Absence seizures (petit mal)
- Generalized tonic-clonic seizures (grand mal)
- Myoclonic and atonic seizures
- Mixed seizure types involving absence episodes
- Prevention of febrile seizures
- Prevention of post-traumatic epilepsy
Additionally, Valex CR is used in managing bipolar disorder and for migraine prophylaxis.
Sodium Valproate exerts broad-spectrum antiepileptic action. Although its exact mechanism is not fully defined, it is thought to enhance gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) levels in the brain, contributing to its anticonvulsant properties.
