Verospiron/Spironolactone is a diuretic (water pill) primarily used for the treatment of heart failure, high blood pressure, and conditions causing swelling (edema). It is also prescribed to address low potassium levels in the body (hypokalemia).
- Verospiron is a long-acting aldosterone antagonist.
- Acts through competitive binding of receptors at the aldosterone-dependent sodium-potassium exchange site in the distal convoluted renal tubule.
- Causes increased excretion of sodium and water while retaining potassium and magnesium.
