Xoviral is an antiviral eye medication used to treat viral eye infections, particularly acute herpetic keratitis (dendritic ulcers) caused by herpes simplex virus (HSV). It is also used in immunocompromised patients to manage cytomegalovirus (CMV)-related eye infections, helping reduce the risk of vision loss.
- 1 drop in the affected eye, 5 times daily (approximately every 3 hours while awake) until the corneal ulcer heals.
- Then 1 drop, 3 times daily for 7 days as advised by the doctor.
Xoviral contains Ganciclovir, which works by preventing the virus from multiplying. It inhibits viral DNA synthesis, thereby stopping the production of new viruses and allowing the eye infection to heal.
- Use Xoviral only for external eye application.
- Wash your hands before and after use.
- Apply the gel inside the lower eyelid without touching the eye or tube tip.
- Follow the dose and duration exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
