Azithromycin 200 mg/5 mL Powder for Suspension is used in children to manage infections caused by bacteria and other microorganisms, which include chest, throat, and nasal infections (such as bronchitis, pneumonia, tonsillitis, sore throat, and sinusitis). It is also used to manage ear infections (such as acute otitis media) and skin and soft tissue infections (such as an abscess or boil) in affected children, and is also indicated for use to manage sexually transmitted diseases (caused by organisms such as Chlamydia trachomatis or Neisseria gonorrhoeae) in the affected child.
Azithromycin works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis (essential for the bacteria to grow), which results in its destruction, thus managing the growth and spread of infection in affected individuals.
