Potassium Citrate is absorbed and converted into potassium bicarbonate, which acts as a systemic alkalizer. Before absorption, its effects resemble those of potassium chloride; afterward, they are similar to bicarbonates. Almost complete oxidation occurs, with less than 5% excreted unchanged in urine.
Urokit Plus Oral Solution is recommended for the following conditions:
- Relief of discomfort associated with urinary tract infections (UTIs)
- Prevention of kidney stone formation
- Use alongside uricosuric agents to help prevent gout
- Management of acidosis caused by certain kidney disorders
Urokit Plus is an effective urine alkalinizing agent, ideal for situations where maintaining alkaline urine over the long term is beneficial—such as in patients with uric acid or cystine urinary stones, especially when sodium-based preparations are not suitable. It also serves as a valuable accompaniment to uricosuric therapy in gout, as urates are more likely to crystallize in acidic urine.
The solution is effective in correcting acidosis associated with some renal tubular disorders, where potassium citrate may be preferred. Urokit Plus is highly concentrated and, when taken after meals and before bedtime, helps maintain alkaline urine throughout the day without requiring late-night dosing. It alkalinizes urine without causing systemic alkalosis when used as recommended. Its pleasant taste and good tolerability make it suitable for long-term use. Potassium citrate does not affect gastric acidity or digestion.
