Top (Ketoprofen) | Non-steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drug (NSAID)
Top is indicated for the symptomatic relief of inflammation, pain, and fever associated with:
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Degenerative joint diseases (e.g., osteoarthritis)
- Musculoskeletal and joint disorders such as tendinitis and sprains
- Various painful conditions including dental pain, headache, and primary dysmenorrhea
Ketoprofen, the active ingredient of Top, is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) with anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antipyretic properties.
It works primarily by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis, both peripherally and centrally. Additionally, it:
- Stabilizes lysosomal membranes
- Inhibits leukotriene synthesis at higher concentrations
- Exhibits antibradykinin activity
- Suppresses CNS prostaglandin synthesis, contributing to its fever-reducing effect
- Absorption & Elimination:
- Rapidly and almost completely absorbed from the GI tract
- 99% protein-bound (mainly to albumin)
- Half-life: approximately 1–4 hours
- Extensively metabolized in the liver
- Excreted primarily through urine (50–90%) and to a lesser extent through feces (1–8%)
Following IM injection, peak plasma levels occur within 0.5–0.75 hoursdxÂ
