Salmeterol Xinafoate: Selective long-acting β2-adrenoceptor agonist (12-hour effect). Relaxes airway muscles and prevents asthma/COPD symptoms.
Fluticasone Propionate: Inhaled corticosteroid with potent anti-inflammatory effect in the lungs, reducing symptoms and exacerbations without systemic side effects at recommended doses.
Combination effect: Salmeterol prevents symptoms, while Fluticasone improves lung function and prevents flare-ups.
Asthma: For patients not adequately controlled with inhaled corticosteroids plus “as-needed” short-acting β2-agonist, or those already controlled on both inhaled corticosteroid and long-acting β2-agonist.
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD): To improve lung function and reduce exacerbations.
Use only under a registered doctor’s advice.
- Not for acute asthma attacks; use a rescue inhaler
- Serious asthma events may occur; seek medical advice if symptoms worsen
- Paradoxical bronchospasm may occur; treat immediately with a short-acting bronchodilator
- COPD patients: increased risk of pneumonia; monitor symptoms
- Long-term corticosteroid effects: adrenal suppression, decreased bone density, growth retardation in children, cataract, glaucoma
