Laxocon is prescribed for:
- Constipation of various causes
- Relief from prolonged or recurrent constipation
- Bowel cleansing prior to surgery, childbirth, or radiological procedures
Administer orally, preferably at night, to achieve bowel evacuation the following morning. Start with the lowest effective dose, adjusting if necessary but without exceeding the maximum daily limit.
Tablet (10 mg):
- Adults & children >10 years: 5–10 mg daily
- Children 4–10 years: 2.5–5 mg daily
Laxocon contains Sodium Picosulfate, a stimulant laxative belonging to the triarylmethane group. After ingestion, it is metabolized by colonic bacteria into its active form, which stimulates the intestinal nerve endings. This increases colonic peristalsis and enhances fluid & electrolyte retention in the colon, leading to:
- Softer stool
- Reduced intestinal transit time
- Stimulation of rectal motility and sensation of fullness, helping restore the natural “call to stool.”
- Together with Laxocon 10 mg Tablet, taking a fiber-rich diet containing whole grain bread and cereals, bran, fruits, and green leafy vegetables is essential to maintain healthy bowel function.
- Avoid taking a Laxocon 10 mg Tablet for more than 1 week, unless prescribed by the doctor, as it leads to dependency on the laxative action to produce a bowel movement.
- Take Laxocon 10 mg Tablet after 2 hours from other medicines, as it may interfere with the absorption of other medicines.
- Laxocon 10 mg Tablet should be preferably taken at bedtime because it requires 6 to 8 hours to show an impact.
