Aclobet 0.05% Ointment 30g

Aclobet is a potent topical corticosteroid used in adults, elderly patients, and children over 1 year of age to treat steroid-responsive skin conditions, including:

• Psoriasis (excluding extensive plaque psoriasis)
• Resistant dermatoses
• Lichen planus
• Discoid lupus erythematosus
• Other inflammatory skin disorders that do not respond adequately to less potent corticosteroids

Use this medicine only as directed by a registered physician.

Cream & Ointment

• Adults, elderly, and children over 1 year: Apply a thin layer to the affected area twice daily and rub in gently.
• Short treatment courses may be repeated during flare-ups.
• Resistant lesions may benefit from overnight occlusion with polythene film if recommended by a physician.
• Treatment should generally not exceed 2 consecutive weeks.
• Do not use more than 50 g per week.
• In children, treatment should preferably be limited to 5 days with weekly review.

Scalp Spray/Scalp Solution

• Apply once or twice daily to affected scalp areas and massage gently.
• Do not exceed 50 ml per week.
• Stop treatment once the condition improves or if no response is seen after one week.

Shampoo

• Apply once daily to a dry scalp, massage into affected areas, and leave for 15 minutes before rinsing.
• Maximum treatment duration: 4 weeks.
• Do not exceed 50 g per week.
• Not recommended for individuals under 18 years.

Use only under the advice of a registered physician.

Administration

• For external use only.
• Creams are more suitable for moist or oozing skin conditions.
• Ointments are better for dry, thickened, or scaly skin.

Drug Interactions

Medicines that inhibit CYP3A4 enzymes (such as ritonavir or itraconazole) may increase the body’s exposure to clobetasol, raising the risk of systemic corticosteroid effects.

Contraindications

Do not use Aclobet in patients with:

• Allergy to clobetasol or any ingredient in the product
• Rosacea
• Acne vulgaris
• Perioral dermatitis
• Viral skin infections (such as herpes simplex or chickenpox)
• Untreated fungal or bacterial skin infections
• Perianal or genital itching
• Children under 1 year of age, including diaper rash or infant dermatitis

Side Effects

Possible side effects include:

• Skin thinning (atrophy)
• Stretch marks (striae)
• Visible superficial blood vessels
• Changes in skin pigmentation
• Increased hair growth
• Worsening of psoriasis (rare)
• Signs of excessive corticosteroid absorption with prolonged or extensive use
• Allergic skin reactions such as rash or irritation

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Use during pregnancy only if the expected benefit outweighs the potential risk to the fetus.
• It is unknown whether topical clobetasol passes into breast milk. Use cautiously during breastfeeding and consult a healthcare professional before use.

Precautions & Warnings

• Avoid prolonged or continuous use, especially in children.
• Do not use occlusive dressings unless instructed by a physician.
• Limit facial application to short courses, as facial skin is more prone to thinning.
• Prevent contact with the eyes to reduce the risk of glaucoma or cataracts.
• Use cautiously in psoriasis, as withdrawal or misuse may worsen the condition.
• If a skin infection develops, appropriate antimicrobial treatment should be started, and corticosteroid therapy may need to be discontinued.

Use in Special Populations

Children: Prolonged use should be avoided due to a higher risk of adrenal suppression and skin thinning.

Overdose

Acute overdose is uncommon. However, prolonged excessive use may cause symptoms of corticosteroid excess (hypercortisolism). If this occurs, treatment should be gradually discontinued under medical supervision.
