Nocandia is used to treat a variety of fungal infections, including:
- Non-systemic fungal diseases: Oropharyngeal candidiasis, vulvovaginal candidiasis, pityriasis versicolor, tinea pedis, tinea cruris, tinea corporis, tinea manuum, and onychomycosis.
- Systemic fungal diseases: Candidiasis, aspergillosis, cryptococcosis (including meningitis), and histoplasmosis.
It is also used for maintenance therapy in AIDS patients to prevent relapse and as prophylaxis during prolonged neutropenia.
Nocandia contains itraconazole, which inhibits the synthesis of ergosterol, an essential component of fungal cell membranes. This disruption leads to impaired cell membrane function, ultimately inhibiting fungal growth and survival.
