Rosuvastatin 10/ Rovast 10 is prescribed for patients with:
- Primary hyperlipidemia and mixed dyslipidemia as a dietary supplement to lower total cholesterol (total-C), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), apolipoprotein B (ApoB), non-HDL-C, and triglycerides (TG), while increasing high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C).
- Hypertriglyceridemia, as part of a diet plan.
- Primary dysbetalipoproteinemia (Type III hyperlipoproteinemia), in combination with dietary adjustments.
Use this medication only as directed by a registered healthcare professional.
Rosuvastatin works by selectively and competitively inhibiting HMG-CoA reductase, an enzyme responsible for converting 3-hydroxy-3-methyl glutaryl coenzyme A into mevalonate, a precursor of cholesterol.
Its cholesterol-lowering effects work through two mechanisms:
- Increasing hepatic LDL receptors, which enhances the breakdown and elimination of LDL.
- Inhibiting VLDL synthesis in the liver, thereby reducing the total number of VLDL and LDL particles.
