Amotid (Amoxicillin) | Therapeutic Class: Broad-Spectrum Penicillin Antibiotic
Amoxicillin is a broad-spectrum penicillin that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell lysis and death. It is stable in gastric acid and rapidly absorbed after oral administration, with peak plasma levels reached within 1–2 hours. It distributes widely throughout body tissues and fluids.
Amotid is indicated for the treatment of infections caused by susceptible β-lactamase-negative microorganisms, including:
- ENT infections: Otitis media, sinusitis, tonsillitis, pharyngitis, laryngitis
- Respiratory infections: Pneumonia, bronchitis (acute/chronic), lung abscess, empyema, bronchiectasis
- Skin and soft tissue infections: Cellulitis, carbuncles, abscesses, infected wounds
- Genitourinary infections: Pyelonephritis, cystitis, urethritis
- Venereal disease: Acute uncomplicated gonorrhea
- Dental infections: Short-term therapy for dental abscess
- H. pylori-related duodenal ulcer: Used in combination with clarithromycin and lansoprazole (triple therapy) to treat H. pylori infection and prevent ulcer recurrence.
