Description

Cefpodoxime/Rovantin 100 mg  is an antibiotic. It kills the bacteria by preventing them from forming the bacterial protective covering (cell wall) which is needed for them to survive. Cefpodoxime is used for Pharyngitis, Acute otitis media, Community-acquired pneumonia, Sinusitis, UTI, Cystitis, Gonorrhea, Skin and skin structure infections, Tonsillitis, Respiratory tract infections, Acute Maxillary Sinusitis, Acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis

Rovantin is prescribed for infections caused by susceptible microorganisms, including:

  • Ear Infections (Acute Otitis Media): Caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus pyogenes, Haemophilus influenzae, and Moraxella catarrhalis (including beta-lactamase-producing strains).
  • Throat Infections (Pharyngitis/Tonsillitis): Due to Streptococcus pyogenes.
  • Sinus Infections (Acute Maxillary Sinusitis): Caused by H. influenzae, S. pneumoniae, and M. catarrhalis (including beta-lactamase-producing strains).
  • Community-Acquired Pneumonia: Due to S. pneumoniae and H. influenzae (including beta-lactamase-producing strains).
  • Chronic Bronchitis Exacerbations: Caused by S. pneumoniae, H. influenzae (non-beta-lactamase-producing strains), and M. catarrhalis.
  • Skin & Soft Tissue Infections: Caused by Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes.
  • Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs): Due to E. coli, K. pneumoniae, Proteus mirabilis, and Staphylococcus saprophyticus.
  • Uncomplicated Gonorrhea & Rectal Gonococcal Infections in Women: Caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae (including penicillinase-producing strains).
