Description

Acitretin is a retinoid, similar to Vitamin A. Its exact mechanism is not fully understood, but it is known to:

  • Modulate cellular differentiation in the epidermis
  • Regulate RNA/DNA synthesis
  • Influence epidermal proliferation
  • Modify glycoprotein synthesis and immune response

The result is more normal skin cell growth, improving thickened, scaly, and inflamed skin.

Soritec contains Acitretin, an oral retinoid (Vitamin A analogue) used to treat severe skin conditions that do not respond to other therapies.

Adults & Elderly:

  • Initial dose: 25–30 mg daily for 2–4 weeks
  • Maintenance: 25–50 mg daily for 6–8 weeks for optimal results
  • Maximum dose: 75 mg/day in some cases

Darier’s disease:

  • Start at 10 mg/day and increase cautiously

Congenital ichthyosis & Darier’s disease:

  • Therapy may continue beyond 3 months; use the lowest effective dose (≤50 mg/day)
  • Continuous use beyond 6 months is not recommended

Children:

Typical dose: 0.5 mg/kg daily

Can increase up to 1 mg/kg daily, max 35 mg/day for short periods
