- Hepatitis A virus (HAV) is a member of the Picornavirus family, known to cause systemic illness and liver damage.
- The incubation period for HAV is approximately 28 days (15-50 days range).
- Symptoms range from mild, asymptomatic infection to severe icteric hepatitis and, in rare cases, mortality.
- Immunization develops HAV antibodies, providing protection, although the minimum effective antibody titer is not yet established.
