Description

Albumin is used for short-term fluid replacement after trauma and nephrotic syndrome. Albutein Infusion is used to treat blood volume loss. It works by replacing the body fluids lost due to excessive trauma, bleeding, surgery, or kidney dialysis. Thus, it is helpful in treating low blood albumin levels. Albutein 25% is an albumin solution indicated for:

  • Hypovolemia.
  • Cardiopulmonary bypass procedures.
  • Acute nephrosis.
  • Hypoalbuminemia.
  • Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome.
  • Neonatal hyperbilirubinemia.
  • Adult respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).
  • Prevention of central volume depletion after paracentesis due to cirrhotic ascites.

Albutein 25% contains Human albumin and falls under the category of Plasma expanders. It’s employed to restore and maintain blood volume in cases of hypovolemia, marked by symptoms like sweating, light-headedness, confusion, fatigue, or decreased blood pressure.

Additionally, Albutein 25% treats hypoalbuminemia, which occurs when albumin levels are low, typically seen in burns, Adult Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS), and nephrosis. The infusion is also used during cardiopulmonary bypass surgery and for Hemolytic Disease of the Newborn.

However, it’s not suitable for severe anemia or heart failure with normal or increased intravascular volume. Prior to receiving Albutein 25%, of the patients should inform their doctor about high blood pressure, gut vein enlargement, lung water accumulation, bleeding tendencies, or reduced urine production.

Medical professionals will monitor circulatory status, electrolyte balance, and blood volume. Caution is advised for pregnant and breastfeeding women, necessitating consultation with a doctor before administration. For children, the dose is determined based on body weight.

Common side effects encompass anaphylactoid-type reactions such as skin issues, low blood pressure, wheezing, breathing difficulties, and rapid pulse. If symptoms worsen over time, medical attention should be sought.
