Audicom ear drop is used for the treatment of superficial bacterial and fungal infections of the external auditory canal and middle ear caused by organisms sensitive to Ofloxacin and Clotrimazole.
This ear drop combines antibacterial, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, and local anesthetic properties to effectively manage ear infections while maintaining the normal environment of the ear canal.
- Ofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic with broad-spectrum activity against common ear pathogens. It works by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase, thereby preventing bacterial growth. It is effective against organisms such as Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Escherichia coli, Haemophilus influenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis, Proteus mirabilis, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Unlike aminoglycosides, Ofloxacin is preferred for middle ear use due to its low risk of ototoxicity.
- Clotrimazole is a broad-spectrum antifungal agent that interferes with fungal cell membrane formation by inhibiting ergosterol synthesis. It is effective against fungi including Candida, Microsporum, and Trichophyton. It also possesses some antibacterial activity against Streptococci and Staphylococci, making it useful in mixed infections.
