Biofol 5 Tablet is a detoxifying agent or folic acid analog that is used in cancer therapy as an antidote to decrease the toxic effects of certain cancer medications, such as methotrexate. It can also be used in cancer therapy in conjunction with 5-fluorouracil. (cytotoxic therapy).
Calcium folinate, also known as Leucovorin, is a type of vitamin B found in Biofol 5 Tablet. It is the active component of folic acid. The mechanism of action of Biofol 5 Tablet is to protect healthy cells from the toxic effects of methotrexate (cancer medications) while allowing it to penetrate and destroy cancer cells. It should be given as quickly as feasible after receiving methotrexate.
