Biokof is indicated for the relief of dry (non-productive) cough, which may result from recent viral infections. It is also effective for managing pre- and post-operative cough, cough associated with bronchoscopy, whooping cough, and acute coughs of various origins, including those caused by tracheitis, laryngitis, or bronchitis
Butamirate Citrate acts directly on the cough center in the brain, suppressing the cough reflex. It is a safe, non-opioid, and non-sedating antitussive agent, unrelated chemically or pharmacologically to opium derivatives. Following oral administration, it is rapidly and completely absorbed, achieving peak plasma levels within 9 hours for the sustained-release form. The plasma half-life is approximately 13 hours, and its active metabolites also possess antitussive properties.
Overdose symptoms may include drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of balance, and low blood pressure. Standard emergency measures should be taken — administration of activated charcoal, saline laxatives, and supportive cardio-respiratory care.
