Deflazacort exerts its effect by inhibiting phospholipase A2, reducing prostaglandin production and other inflammatory mediators. It also suppresses immune system activity by decreasing cytokine and inflammatory chemical release, producing both anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive effects.
Cordef (Deflazacort) is used in the management of:
- Severe allergic reactions including anaphylaxis and bronchial asthma
- Autoimmune disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis, juvenile chronic arthritis, SLE, dermatomyositis, and mixed connective tissue disease (excluding systemic sclerosis)
- Vasculitic and granulomatous diseases like polyarteritis nodosa and sarcoidosis
